Johnny Preston was an American singer born on August 18, 1939, in Port Arthur, Texas. He is best known for his hit song "Running Bear," which was released in 1959 and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was a duet with another artist named J.P. Richardson, also known as The Big Bopper. "Running Bear" sold over a million copies and was awarded a gold disc.
Preston continued to release music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but none of his subsequent songs achieved the same level of success as "Running Bear." Despite this, he remained a popular performer on the oldies circuit and continued to perform live shows. Johnny Preston passed away on March 4, 2011, in Beaumont, Texas, leaving behind a musical legacy that is still remembered and celebrated by fans of 1950s rock and roll.
