Johnny Rodriguez is an American country music singer and songwriter who rose to fame in the 1970s. He was born on December 10, 1951, in Sabinal, Texas. Rodriguez's music career took off in 1972 when he signed with Mercury Records and released his debut album, "Introducing Johnny Rodriguez." His traditional country sound and powerful vocals quickly earned him a loyal fan base.


Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Johnny Rodriguez achieved success with numerous hit singles, including "Pass Me By," "Riding My Thumb to Mexico," and "Just Get Up and Close the Door." He was the first ever Latin artist to be named Male Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music in 1973.
