Joni James is an American singer of traditional pop music. She was born on September 22, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, as Joan Carmella Babbo. James achieved success in the 1950s and 1960s with hits such as "Why Don't You Believe Me?" and "How Important Can It Be?".


She signed with MGM Records in 1952 and went on to release a string of successful albums and singles. Joni James was known for her smooth, sultry voice and her ability to convey emotion through her singing. She was a popular performer on television and in live concerts during her heyday. James retired from performing in the 1970s but has continued to be recognized for her contributions to the music industry.
