The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist Steve Walsh, guitarist Kerry Livgren, bassist Dave Hope, drummer Phil Ehart, and violinist Robby Steinhardt. They are known for their progressive rock sound that incorporates elements of classical music and hard rock. Kansas achieved commercial success in the 1970s and 1980s with hits such as "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind."

Throughout their career, Kansas has released over a dozen studio albums, with their most successful being their 1976 album "Leftoverture" and 1977 album "Point of Know Return."
