Kenny O'Dell, born Kenneth Gist Jr. on June 21, 1944, was an American country music singer and songwriter. He achieved success as a songwriter in the 1960s and 1970s, penning hits for various artists such as Charlie Rich, Tanya Tucker, and Dottie West. One of his most notable compositions is the Grammy-winning song "Behind Closed Doors" recorded by Charlie Rich in 1973.
In addition to his songwriting success, O'Dell also had a career as a recording artist. He released several albums in the 1970s, with his biggest hit being "Beautiful People" in 1967, which reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Kenny O'Dell continued to be involved in the music industry as a performer and songwriter until his passing on March 27, 2018.
