King Curtis was an American saxophonist and composer who was born on February 7, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas, and passed away on August 13, 1971, in New York City. He was known for his distinctive style of playing the tenor saxophone and was a prominent figure in the soul and R&B music scenes of the 1950s and 1960s. Curtis gained recognition for his work as a session musician, playing on numerous hit records for artists such as Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and the Coasters.
In addition to his session work, King Curtis also released several solo albums, including "Soul Twist" and "Live at Fillmore West," which showcased his talents as a bandleader and performer. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, recognizing his significant contributions to the development of soul and R&B music during his career.
