Artist Bio:
King Curtis, born Curtis Ousley on February 7, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas, was an American saxophonist known for his distinctive style and influential contributions to the soul and R&B genres. He began his music career in the 1950s, playing saxophone for various R&B and jazz bands before finding success as a session musician, recording with artists like Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and The Coasters. Curtis released several solo albums, including the critically acclaimed "Live at Fillmore West" in 1971, which showcased his dynamic and energetic live performances.

In addition to his solo work, King Curtis was a prominent member of the Atlantic Records house band, known as The Kingpins. He was a key figure in the development of soul music and played a significant role in shaping the sound of the 1960s and 1970s. Tragically, his life and career were cut short when he was fatally stabbed outside his New York City apartment in 1971 at the age of 37. Despite his untimely death, King Curtis's music continues to inspire and influence musicians to this day.
