King Curtis & The Kingpins were an American soul and R&B group led by saxophonist King Curtis. The group was formed in the 1960s and became known for their energetic live performances and tight musical arrangements. King Curtis, born Curtis Ousley, was a highly respected musician in the soul and jazz scenes, known for his soulful saxophone playing and ability to blend different musical styles.


The Kingpins were known for their collaborations with prominent artists such as Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and The Coasters. Their most famous recording is the instrumental track "Soul Serenade," which became a hit and solidified King Curtis's reputation as a leading figure in the soul music genre. Tragically, King Curtis was murdered in 1971, but his music and influence continue to be celebrated by fans and fellow musicians.
