Artist Bio:
King Curtis, born Curtis Ousley in 1934, was an American saxophonist and bandleader known for his soulful and energetic style. He began his music career playing R&B and jazz, eventually becoming a highly sought-after session musician. In the 1960s, King Curtis formed the band The Kingpins, which served as both his backing band and a separate recording and performing entity. The Kingpins were known for their tight, dynamic sound and were a prominent group in the soul and R&B music scene of the time.

King Curtis & The Kingpins achieved commercial success with hits like "Soul Serenade" and "Memphis Soul Stew." They also gained acclaim for their live performances, including a legendary appearance at the Fillmore West in 1971. Sadly, King Curtis's life and career were tragically cut short when he was fatally stabbed in 1971. Despite his untimely death, King Curtis & The Kingpins left a lasting impact on the world of soul music and continue to be celebrated for their contributions to the genre.
