KISS is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973. The band's original lineup consisted of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. Known for their elaborate live performances which often include pyrotechnics, elaborate costumes, and face paint, KISS rose to fame in the 1970s with their hard rock sound and theatrical stage presence.
KISS has released numerous hit songs, including "Rock and Roll All Nite," "Detroit Rock City," and "Beth." They have sold over 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. KISS was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and continues to tour and perform to this day, with various lineup changes over the years but with Stanley and Simmons remaining as the core members.
