Kitty Wells, born Ellen Muriel Deason in 1919, was an American country music singer. She is considered one of the pioneering women in the genre, often referred to as the "Queen of Country Music." Wells gained fame in the 1950s with her hit song "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," which was the first number one hit by a solo female artist on the country music charts. She continued to have success with songs like "Making Believe" and "Release Me," becoming one of the first female country artists to achieve mainstream success.


Throughout her career, Kitty Wells received numerous accolades, including being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1976. She was a trailblazer for women in country music, paving the way for future generations of female artists. Wells' impact on the genre is still felt today, as she remains a revered figure in country music history. Wells passed away in 2012 at the age of 92, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the music industry.
