Kurtis Blow is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and DJ. He is widely considered one of the founding fathers of hip hop music and is known for being the first commercially successful rapper. Kurtis Blow gained fame in the late 1970s and early 1980s with hits such as "The Breaks" and "Basketball." He was the first rapper to sign with a major record label, Mercury Records, and was the first to have a certified gold record with his song "The Breaks."


In addition to his music career, Kurtis Blow has also been involved in various other ventures, including working as a music executive, radio host, and minister. He has continued to be a prominent figure in the hip hop community, serving as a mentor to younger artists and advocating for the preservation of hip hop culture.
