Artist Bio:
Kyu Sakamoto was a Japanese singer and actor born on December 10, 1941, in Kawasaki, Japan. He is best known for his hit song "Sukiyaki," released in 1961, which became a global success and topped the charts in the United States, making him the first Asian artist to achieve this feat. The song also became one of the best-selling singles of all time, with over 13 million copies sold worldwide.


Sakamoto continued to have success in Japan with other hit songs and also pursued a career in acting, appearing in several films and television shows. Tragically, his life was cut short when he died in a plane crash on August 12, 1985, at the age of 43. Despite his untimely death, Kyu Sakamoto's music and legacy continue to be celebrated, and "Sukiyaki" remains a timeless classic that has left a lasting impact on the music industry.
