Lawrence Welk was an American musician, accordionist, bandleader, and television impresario, known for his successful TV show "The Lawrence Welk Show." Welk formed his orchestra in 1940 and the group became known for their "champagne music" style, featuring a mix of polkas, waltzes, and popular music. The orchestra gained popularity through their appearances on radio and television, with their TV show running from 1955 to 1982.


The Lawrence Welk Orchestra released numerous albums and singles, with some of their most popular songs including "Calcutta," "Bubbles in the Wine," and "Oh, Happy Day." The orchestra's music appealed to a wide audience and Welk's friendly on-screen persona helped make the show a hit. Lawrence Welk's orchestra continued to perform and record music after his passing in 1992, carrying on his legacy of bringing cheerful, easy-listening music to audiences across America.
