Leon Haywood was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer, born on February 11, 1942, in Houston, Texas. He began his music career in the 1960s as a session musician, playing keyboards for artists such as Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin. In the 1970s, Haywood transitioned to a solo career and had his biggest hit in 1975 with the single "I Want'a Do Something Freaky To You," which later became a popular sample in hip-hop music, notably in Dr. Dre's "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang."
In addition to his solo success, Leon Haywood also wrote and produced music for other artists, including The Whispers and Carl Carlton. Throughout his career, he released numerous albums and singles across various genres such as soul, funk, and R&B. Leon Haywood passed away on April 5, 2016, leaving behind a legacy as a talented musician and influential figure in the music industry.
