He was born on April 2, 1942, in Lawton, Oklahoma, and passed away on November 13, 2016, in Nashville, Tennessee. Russell was known for his distinctive voice, soulful piano playing, and eclectic musical style that blended rock, blues, gospel, and country music.


Russell was a highly sought-after session musician and collaborated with numerous well-known artists, including Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, and Elton John. He released over 30 albums as a solo artist and is best known for hits like "A Song for You" and "Tight Rope." Russell was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011 for his contributions to music as a songwriter and performer.
