Linda Ronstadt & The Stone Poneys was a folk rock trio formed in the mid-1960s. The group consisted of lead vocalist Linda Ronstadt, guitarist Bobby Kimmel, and guitarist Kenny Edwards. They are best known for their hit song "Different Drum," which was written by Michael Nesmith of The Monkees. The song was a commercial success, reaching the top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967.
The Stone Poneys released three albums during their time together, with their self-titled debut album being the most successful. Linda Ronstadt eventually went on to have a highly successful solo career, becoming one of the best-selling female artists of all time. The Stone Poneys disbanded in 1968, but their music continues to be celebrated by fans of folk and rock music.
