The group consisted of lead vocalist Lisa Velez, guitarist/bassist Alex "Spanador" Moseley, and drummer/keyboardist Mike Hughes. They rose to fame in the mid-1980s with a string of hits, including "I Wonder If I Take You Home" and "Head to Toe," which both reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Their music was known for blending pop, dance, and freestyle elements, and they were one of the pioneering groups in the freestyle music genre.
Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam released three successful albums in the late 1980s, with their debut album reaching platinum status.
