Lou Donaldson is an American jazz alto saxophonist born on November 1, 1926, in Badin, North Carolina. He first gained recognition in the 1950s and 1960s for his distinctive bebop and hard bop style. Donaldson has recorded over 30 albums as a leader and has collaborated with prominent jazz musicians such as Art Blakey, Horace Silver, and Jimmy Smith.


Known for his soulful and bluesy sound, Donaldson is also recognized for his inventive improvisational skills.
