Artist Bio:
Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553) was a German Renaissance artist known for his paintings and woodcuts. He was born in Kronach, Bavaria, and trained as a painter in Vienna and Germany before settling in Wittenberg in 1505. Cranach was a close friend of Martin Luther and became the court painter for the Electors of Saxony. He was a prolific artist, producing numerous portraits, altarpieces, and mythological scenes. Cranach's style is characterized by detailed realism, vibrant colors, and intricate symbolism. He was also a skilled printmaker, producing woodcuts that were widely circulated and influential during the Reformation.

In addition to his artistic talents, Lucas Cranach the Elder was a successful businessman, running a large workshop with several assistants who helped produce and replicate his works. His son, Lucas Cranach the Younger, also became a renowned artist who continued his father's workshop after his death. Today, Lucas Cranach the Elder is considered one of the most important German artists of the 16th century, with his works being held in major museums and collections around the world.
