Luther Ingram was an American R&B and soul singer and songwriter, born on November 30, 1937, in Jackson, Tennessee. He is best known for his hit song "If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Want to Be Right)," which reached number 1 on the Billboard R&B chart and number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1972. The song has since been covered by numerous artists and remains a classic in the soul music genre.


Ingram began his music career in the 1960s, recording for various labels before finding success with "If Loving You Is Wrong." He continued to release music throughout the 1970s and 1980s, with several of his songs charting on the R&B charts. Luther Ingram passed away on March 19, 2007, leaving behind a legacy of soulful music that continues to be celebrated by fans of R&B and soul music.
