Luther Vandross was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer known for his smooth and soulful voice. He was born on April 20, 1951, in New York City, and began his music career in the 1970s as a backing vocalist for artists like David Bowie and Bette Midler. Vandross released his debut solo album, "Never Too Much," in 1981, which was a commercial success and established him as a prominent R&B artist.


Throughout his career, Vandross released several hit albums and singles, including "Power of Love/Love Power," "Here and Now," and "Dance with My Father." He won multiple Grammy Awards and sold over 35 million records worldwide. Vandross was also known for his collaborations with other artists, such as his duet with Mariah Carey on the song "Endless Love." His music continues to be influential in the R&B genre, and he is remembered as one of the greatest soul singers of all time. Vandross passed away on July 1, 2005, at the age of 54.
