Mac Davis was an American country music singer, songwriter, and actor born on January 21, 1942, in Lubbock, Texas. He began his music career as a songwriter in the 1960s, penning hits for artists such as Elvis Presley ("In the Ghetto," "A Little Less Conversation") and Kenny Rogers ("Something's Burning"). Davis released his debut album in 1970 and went on to have a successful solo career, earning hits with songs like "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me" and "Stop and Smell the Roses." He also hosted his own variety show, "The Mac Davis Show," in the 1970s.


In addition to his music career, Mac Davis found success as an actor, appearing in films such as "North Dallas Forty" and "The Sting II." He also had a successful television career, with guest appearances on shows like "The Love Boat" and "That '70s Show." Mac Davis was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006 and continued to perform and tour until his passing on September 29, 2020.
