Mac Davis was an American country music singer, songwriter, and actor, born on January 21, 1942, in Lubbock, Texas. He started his music career as a songwriter penning hits for artists like Elvis Presley, such as "In the Ghetto" and "A Little Less Conversation." Davis released his debut album in 1970, and his song "Baby, Don't Get Hooked on Me" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1972. He also had other successful hits like "Stop and Smell the Roses" and "One Hell of a Woman."
In addition to his music career, Mac Davis also found success as an actor, appearing in films like "North Dallas Forty" and the television series "North Dallas Forty." He also hosted his variety show, "The Mac Davis Show," from 1974 to 1976. Davis was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1998. Mac Davis passed away on September 29, 2020, at the age of 78.
