Artist Bio:
Major Lance was born on April 4, 1939, in Winterville, Mississippi. He was an American R&B singer who found success in the 1960s with his smooth, soulful vocals and energetic stage presence. Lance was signed to Okeh Records and had several hit songs in the early 1960s, including "The Monkey Time" and "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um." He was known for his catchy dance tracks and his ability to connect with audiences through his lively performances.
Lance's music was an important part of the Chicago soul sound of the 1960s, and he was considered one of the best male vocalists of the era. He continued to record and perform throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but his popularity waned in the later years. Major Lance was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2013.
