Born on April 4, 1939, in Winterville, Mississippi, Lance moved to Chicago as a child and began his music career with the group The Floats. He later signed with Okeh Records and achieved success with hits like "The Monkey Time" and "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um". Lance's smooth, soulful voice and energetic performances helped him become a popular figure in the music scene at the time.
Throughout his career, Major Lance released several albums and singles, including "Delilah" and "Rhythm", which showcased his talent as a versatile and dynamic vocalist. Although his commercial success waned in the 1970s, Lance continued to perform and record music, leaving behind a legacy as a significant figure in the history of R&B music.
