Artist Bio:
The Mar-Keys were an American instrumental soul band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1958. The group was originally a backing band for Stax Records artists, but later emerged as a successful recording act in their own right. The Mar-Keys are best known for their hit single "Last Night," which was released in 1961 and became a chart-topping success. The song is considered a seminal track in the development of the Memphis soul sound.
The band's lineup included notable members such as keyboardist Booker T. Jones, guitarist Steve Cropper, and saxophonist Don Nix. The Mar-Keys were influential in popularizing the Stax Records sound and were one of the early pioneers of the soul music genre. Despite various lineup changes over the years, the Mar-Keys continued to release music and perform live throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
