Martika is an American singer-songwriter and actress who rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She was born Marta Marrero on May 18, 1969, in Whittier, California. Martika released her self-titled debut album in 1988, which spawned the hit singles "Toy Soldiers" and "More Than You Know". "Toy Soldiers" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was a major international hit.
In addition to her music career, Martika also pursued acting, appearing in the popular television series "Kids Incorporated" and later landing a recurring role on the hit show "Wiseguy". Martika released a second album, "Martika's Kitchen", in 1991, which produced the singles "Love... Thy Will Be Done" and "Coloured Kisses". After taking a break from the music industry, Martika made a comeback in the early 2000s, performing in concerts and releasing new music.
