Marv Johnson was an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter born on October 15, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan. He is best known for his hit single "Come to Me," which was released in 1959 and became the first record to be released by Tamla Records, later known as Motown. The song reached number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was a significant early success for the Motown label.
Johnson continued to release music throughout the 1960s, with songs like "I Love the Way You Love" and "You Got What It Takes" achieving moderate success. He also wrote songs for other artists, including the hit "I'll Pick a Rose for My Rose" by Marv and Smokey. Despite not achieving major commercial success in his later career, Marv Johnson is recognized as an influential figure in the early days of Motown and helped pave the way for future artists on the label.
