Marv Johnson was an American R&B and soul singer born on October 15, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan. He is best known for being one of the first artists to record for the iconic Motown record label. Johnson's biggest hit was "You Got What It Takes," which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1960.
Johnson's smooth vocals and soulful delivery helped pave the way for future Motown artists. He continued to release music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but never quite achieved the same level of success as his early hits. Marv Johnson passed away on May 16, 1993, but his music continues to be celebrated for its influence on the R&B and soul genres.
