Artist Bio:
Marvin Gaye was a highly influential American singer, songwriter, and record producer who helped shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s. Born on April 2, 1939, in Washington, D.C., Gaye began his music career in the 1950s as a session drummer before signing with Motown Records in the early 1960s. He achieved widespread success with hits like "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "What's Going On," and "Let's Get It On." Gaye's music often addressed social and political issues, and he is considered one of the greatest soul singers of all time. Tragically, he was fatally shot by his father on April 1, 1984, just one day before his 45th birthday.
