Mary Hopkin is a Welsh singer-songwriter born on May 3, 1950, in Pontardawe, Wales. She rose to fame in the late 1960s after being discovered by Paul McCartney, who signed her to The Beatles' Apple Records. Her debut single, "Those Were the Days," produced by McCartney, became a massive hit, reaching number one in the UK and several other countries.


Hopkin released several successful albums in the late 1960s and early 1970s, showcasing her folk-influenced sound and delicate vocals. Despite her early success, she took a step back from the music industry to focus on her family. She made a comeback in the late 2000s, releasing new music and performing live. Throughout her career, Hopkin has continued to be recognized for her unique voice and contributions to the music industry.
