Artist Bio:
Mary Wells was an American singer who gained fame in the early 1960s as one of the leading female artists of the Motown label. She was born on May 13, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, and began singing at a young age. Wells signed with Motown Records in 1960 and quickly rose to stardom with hits like "My Guy" and "You Beat Me to the Punch." She was known for her soulful voice and catchy melodies, which helped her become one of the most successful Motown artists of her time.

Despite her success, Wells left Motown in 1964 due to disputes over her contract and royalties. She continued to record music for various labels but never quite reached the same level of success as she did with Motown. Wells' influence on the music industry, particularly in the realm of Motown and soul music, is still felt today. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, recognizing her impact on the genre and her enduring legacy as a talented and pioneering artist. Wells passed away on July 26, 1992, but her music continues to be celebrated and remembered by fans around the world.
