Mary Wells was an American singer who became known as "The Queen of Motown" during the early 1960s. She was born on May 13, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. Wells signed with Motown Records in 1960 and soon became one of the label's top-selling artists. Her breakthrough hit came in 1962 with the song "The One Who Really Loves You," which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In 1964, Wells achieved international success with her signature song, "My Guy," which topped the charts in the United States and the United Kingdom. Despite her success, Wells left Motown in 1964 due to a contract dispute. She continued to record music and tour throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but was never able to replicate the success she had with Motown. Mary Wells passed away on July 26, 1992, at the age of 49, leaving behind a legacy as one of Motown's pioneering female artists.
