She was dubbed the "Queen of Motown" and was the first female artist to have a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with "My Guy" in 1964. Despite leaving Motown in 1964, Wells continued to have success as a solo artist before her career declined in the late 1960s. Mary Wells passed away on July 26, 1992, leaving behind a lasting legacy as a pioneer for female artists in the music industry.
