Artist Bio:
Mary Wells was an American singer who played a significant role in the early success of Motown Records. Born on May 13, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, she signed with Motown in 1960 and became one of the label's first successful artists. Wells scored her first hit with "Bye Bye Baby" in 1960, and went on to achieve even greater success with songs like "My Guy" and "You Beat Me to the Punch." She was known for her smooth vocals and soulful delivery, which helped to establish her as a prominent figure in the early 1960s music scene.

Despite her initial success with Motown, Wells left the label in 1964 to sign with 20th Century Fox Records. While she continued to release music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she never quite reached the same level of success as she had with Motown. Mary Wells passed away on July 26, 1992, but her music continues to be celebrated for its influence on the Motown sound and its impact on the development of soul music.
