Artist Bio:
Mary Wells was an American singer who became known as the "Queen of Motown" in the 1960s. She was born on May 13, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. Wells signed with Motown Records in 1960 and quickly rose to fame with hits like "My Guy" and "You Beat Me to the Punch." Her smooth, soulful voice and catchy melodies helped her become one of the label's first successful artists.

Wells' career at Motown was relatively short-lived, as she left the label in 1964 due to disputes over royalties and creative control. Despite this setback, she continued to record music and perform, releasing songs on various labels throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Mary Wells passed away on July 26, 1992, at the age of 49. Her contributions to Motown and the music industry as a whole have left a lasting legacy, and she is remembered as a pioneer for women in music.
