Artist Bio:
Mary Wells (1943-1992) was an American singer who played a significant role in the early success of Motown Records. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, and signed with Motown in 1960, becoming one of the label's first successful recording artists. Wells' hit songs included "My Guy," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1964, as well as "You Beat Me to the Punch" and "Two Lovers."


Wells was known for her smooth, soulful voice and her ability to convey emotion in her music. She was often referred to as the "Queen of Motown" and is credited with helping to establish the Motown sound in the early 1960s. Despite leaving Motown in 1964, Wells continued to record music and perform throughout her career, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of R&B and soul music.
