Artist Bio:
Mary Wells was an American singer who played a significant role in the early Motown sound. She was born on May 13, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. Wells scored her first hit in 1962 with "The One Who Really Loves You," which was followed by a string of successful singles including "You Beat Me to the Punch" and "Two Lovers."

In 1964, Wells achieved international fame with her signature song "My Guy," which became her biggest hit reaching the top of the charts. She was the first solo female artist to have a top-selling record on the Motown label. Despite her success, Wells left Motown in 1964 due to a contract dispute. She continued to record music and perform throughout her career, but she never reached the same level of success as she did during her time with Motown. Wells passed away on July 26, 1992, at the age of 49.
