Artist Bio:
Mary Wells (1943-1992) was an American singer known as "The Queen of Motown." She rose to fame in the early 1960s with hits such as "My Guy" and "You Beat Me to the Punch." Wells was one of the first successful female artists signed to the Motown record label, and her soulful voice and catchy songs helped pave the way for other female artists in the industry.
Despite her early success, Wells' career at Motown was short-lived as she left the label in 1964. She continued to record music with other labels and had some success, but never reached the same level of popularity as she did at Motown. Wells' contributions to the music industry, especially as a pioneering female artist in the male-dominated world of 1960s Motown, have left a lasting impact on the industry.
