Artist Bio:
Mary Wells was an American singer who gained fame in the early 1960s as a leading artist in the Motown record label. She was born on May 13, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. Wells' breakthrough came in 1962 with the release of her hit single "The One Who Really Loves You," which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She followed this success with another chart-topper, "You Beat Me to the Punch," and her most famous song, "My Guy," which became her first and only number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964.

Wells' smooth and soulful voice, along with her catchy melodies and relatable lyrics, endeared her to audiences and established her as a prominent figure in the music industry. Despite leaving Motown in 1964 due to contractual disputes, Mary Wells continued to release music and perform throughout her career, earning her a place in music history as one of the pioneering female artists in the genre. Wells passed away on July 26, 1992, but her legacy lives on through her timeless music and influence on future generations of artists.
