Mason Williams is an American guitarist, composer, and writer, born on August 24, 1938, in Abilene, Texas. He is best known for his instrumental piece "Classical Gas," which won three Grammy Awards in 1969, including Best Instrumental Composition. Williams is also a comedy writer and was a writer for the popular television show "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" in the late 1960s.
In addition to his music and writing, Mason Williams is also an accomplished visual artist and has had exhibitions of his paintings and photography. He has published several books, including "The Mason Williams Reading Matter" and "Flavors." Williams continues to perform music, write, and create art, showcasing his diverse talents across multiple artistic mediums.
