Maxine Brown was an American R&B singer born on August 18, 1932, in Kingstree, South Carolina. She started her singing career in the 1950s as a member of The Manhattans, a vocal group that achieved moderate success. In 1960, she embarked on a solo career and signed with the Nomar record label, where she released several singles that gained popularity on the R&B charts.
In 1960, Maxine Brown released her first solo hit, "All in My Mind," which peaked at number two on the R&B charts and number 19 on the pop charts. Throughout the 1960s, she continued to release successful singles like "Funny," "Oh No Not My Baby," and "We'll Cry Together." Brown's soulful voice and emotive delivery earned her a reputation as one of the leading female vocalists of the era. She continued to perform and record music into the 1970s and beyond, leaving behind a legacy as a talented and influential R&B artist. Maxine Brown passed away on January 21, 2019, at the age of 87.
