MC Lyte, born Lana Michelle Moorer on October 11, 1970, is an American rapper and actress who is considered one of the pioneers of female rap. She rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s with hits like "Cha Cha Cha" and "Ruffneck," becoming the first solo female rapper to release a full album with her 1988 debut, "Lyte as a Rock." Known for her conscious lyrics and empowering messages, MC Lyte has been a prominent figure in hip hop for decades.


In addition to her music career, MC Lyte has also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as "Fly by Night" and "Civil Brand," as well as TV shows like "In the House" and "Half & Half." She has received numerous accolades for her contributions to music, including being the first female solo rapper to be nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Rap Solo Performance category.
