He gained widespread recognition for his 1977 album "Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk," which was a disco rendition of the iconic "Star Wars" film score by John Williams. The album became a commercial success, reaching platinum status and earning Meco a Grammy Award nomination for Best Instrumental Pop Performance.
Meco continued to release music throughout the 1970s and 1980s, often creating disco-infused versions of popular film and television themes. Some of his other notable works include albums inspired by "Superman," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," and "The Wizard of Oz." Meco's unique approach to blending disco with iconic film scores made him a pioneering figure in the disco genre and left a lasting impact on the music industry.
