Metallica is an American heavy metal band formed in 1981 in Los Angeles. The band's original line-up consisted of vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Dave Mustaine, and bassist Ron McGovney. Mustaine was later replaced by Kirk Hammett. Metallica is considered one of the "big four" of thrash metal, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. They are known for their aggressive musical style, fast tempo, and intricate guitar solos.

Metallica achieved mainstream success with their fifth studio album, "The Black Album," released in 1991. The album featured hits like "Enter Sandman" and "Nothing Else Matters." Over the years, Metallica has won multiple Grammy Awards and has sold over 125 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They are also known for their energetic live performances and have headlined major music festivals around the world.
