Metallica is an American heavy metal band formed in 1981 in Los Angeles. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Dave Mustaine, and bassist Ron McGovney. Mustaine was later replaced by Kirk Hammett. Metallica is known for their aggressive musical style, fast tempos, and complex instrumentals. They are considered one of the "big four" of thrash metal alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax.


Metallica gained mainstream success with their third studio album, "Master of Puppets," released in 1986. The band reached commercial peak with their self-titled fifth album, commonly known as "The Black Album," which was released in 1991. Metallica has won multiple Grammy Awards and sold over 125 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They are also known for their energetic live performances and are regarded as one of the most influential heavy metal bands in history.
