Michael Nesmith & The First National Band was a country rock group formed by American musician Michael Nesmith in 1970. The band consisted of Nesmith on vocals and guitar, along with John Ware on drums, John London on bass, and O.J. "Red" Rhodes on pedal steel guitar. The group released three albums together, "Magnetic South," "Loose Salute," and "Nevada Fighter," between 1970 and 1971. The music of Michael Nesmith & The First National Band blended elements of country, rock, and folk, showcasing Nesmith's songwriting skills and distinctive vocals.


The band's sound was influenced by Nesmith's interest in country music and his desire to explore new musical directions following his departure from The Monkees.
