Born on November 8, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Riperton began her music career as a lead vocalist for the psychedelic soul band Rotary Connection before launching a successful solo career. She gained widespread recognition with her hit single "Lovin' You" in 1975. Tragically, Riperton was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1976 and passed away on July 12, 1979, at the age of 31. Despite her untimely death, Riperton's music continues to be celebrated for its unique style and vocal artistry.
