Collier began her music career by singing gospel music in church before transitioning to secular music. She signed with Chess Records in 1961 and released several successful singles, including "I Had a Talk with My Man" and "I Gotta Get Away from It All."
Collier's soulful voice and emotive delivery resonated with audiences, and she became known for her passionate performances. Despite her promising start in the music industry, Collier decided to retire from singing in the late 1960s to focus on her work as a minister. She continued to perform occasionally at gospel events and made a comeback to secular music in the late 2000s with the release of a new album.
